"The only journey is the journey within."–Rainer Maria Rilke.
As an artist, I have come to an understanding that knowing myself better is a key point to make art. Before I create something, I need to get to know myself, delving into my thoughts, emotions, and experiences that shape my perspective. This introspection allows me to recognize the influences that fuel my creativity and guides me in expressing my innermost ideas. And during the process of self-discovery, I uncover layers of my identity that inform my artistic vision, leading me to produce work that is not only authentic but deeply resonant with those who experience it. Embracing this journey empowers me to channel my unique voice into my art, inviting others to connect with the essence of who I truly am.
This painting is very personal. Before the simplicity of the human body, I presented my inner skeleton with a complexity and variety of colours that mirror the many facets of my emotions, revealing the unrevealed part of my own being that often remains hidden from the world. The two parts of my body passed through each other and could not be separated, intertwining in a dance of vulnerability and strength. The presentation of me is the cover of the real me, a façade created to protect my innermost fears and dreams. They merged together to form a profound version of ME, one that encapsulates not only my physical form but also the intricate layers of my thoughts, experiences, and aspirations, blending together in a harmonious expression of who I truly am.
In this painting, skin color and tone are absent, with a utopia-like identity -- with and without identity. This absence invites the viewer to consider the essence of humanity beyond physical appearance, challenging societal norms and encouraging introspection.
The painting is intended to be a commentary on the complexities of selfhood, suggesting that identity can be multifaceted and transcend conventional labels. Each brushstroke adds depth to the exploration of what it means to belong and to be unique in a world that often emphasizes surface attributes, ultimately fostering a deeper connection among diverse individuals.
