Esther Chiu Y.Y.
With a background in psychology and counseling, I focus on exploring human vulnerability through the arts. During my time in the Fine Art Digital master's program at CSM, I worked on projects that delved into my own vulnerability within an urban setting. My career has been a journey of exploration, seeking my true passion. I am deeply intrigued by how art materials can influence the therapeutic journey. Through giving form and color to emotions and thoughts, we can challenge unhelpful perspectives on life experiences.

Referencing my own research on the implications of psychological appraisal theory of aesthetic emotions, I decided to dive headfirst into an exploration of our inexplicable fear of the unknown, a theme that resonates deeply within the human experience. During this creative journey, I confronted my primal fears of extinction and mutilation, which often lurk beneath the surface of the consciousness. The act of visualizing compelled a radical transformation of my emotions, unlocking a deeper understanding of how fear can serve as both a barrier and a catalyst for growth. As I navigated through this psychological landscape, I discovered that embracing and confronting these dark emotions could lead to profound insights about the nature of human existence. Ultimately, this exploration revealed that the unknown, while daunting, is also a fertile ground for creativity and self-discovery.
As I applied colours to the canvas, a significant sense of autonomy surrounded me, where each stroke further diminished my anxiety, revealing a powerful release that engaged the core essence of my being. This artistic expression served not merely as a release but as a means to explore the depths of my imagination, compelling me to push boundaries and unearth new dimensions of my inner self, ultimately nurturing a sense of peace and fulfillment that I sought in my daily existence.

About Me
When I am making art, I express myself through my paintings and find healing. Creating something beautiful sets me free and brings comfort. Not only does art have the power to bring about change and growth when used for healing, it can also inspire hope and self-discovery in others, making a positive impact beyond ourselves. I believe that through art, we can touch lives, offer inspiration, and promote understanding in the world.
I have been on a long and meaningful journey in my career, exploring different paths to find my true calling. I am genuinely fascinated by the profound impact that art materials can have on the therapeutic process. By giving shape and colour to emotions and thoughts, we can redefine unproductive perceptions about life experiences.
